Families and psychopathology; stress and coping in the family; women, work and the family.

Rena Repetti is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at UCLA. She received her Ph.D. in 1985 from Yale University. Repetti studies stress and coping processes in the family. Her work points to the overriding importance of the family social and emotional environment for the health and well being of parents and children, and to the dynamic interplay between an individual’s efforts to cope with daily stressors and patterns of family interaction. The findings from her program of research suggest several processes through which common daily stressors originating outside of the home (at work and at school) influence individuals and families. The findings from her studies reinforce a social ecological perspective on families, one in which members’ daily lives outside of the home are intimately intertwined with life within the home. Repetti’s work crosses traditional boundaries within the field of psychology and is published in a wide range of its premier journals, including Health Psychology, Journal of Family Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Psychological Bulletin, Child Development, Journal Abnormal Psychology, Journal of Social and Personality Psychology, and American Psychologist.
